I have a confession to make. To many of you it won't be a confession but rather an admission of insanity. Or guilt. You can also think of it as me showing you my laminated "I Am A Freak!" card. You knew it was there in my purse all along, tucked behind the Bubblegum Orbitz. But here I am revealing it for all to see. It's out of the bag and I've shined it up on my sleeve. It's not a bad picture actually. See?

I am a card carrying Duranie. I've been one since 1983 and I am proud of it. But I am not alone. Ho no! It's much more fun being in this particular club when you have a coconspirator. A partner in crime. An accomplice! Becky I'm talking to you.

Loving the band when we were 13 aside, this all really started a couple summers ago. The band began touring again with all five original members. Something not seen since Live Aid in 1985! Oh how this world has been deprived people. You have no idea. Anyway late one afternoon I got the following email from Becky;
"They're playing in Vegas next month. We should go!"
It was half a joke and half serious and it took me all of half an hour to think it over. The next day in what can only be described as a "flutter of girlish excitement" we planned our trip to Sin City.

Me "Let's stay in the pyramid!"
Becky "Yeah!"
Me "Let's get a massage while we're there!"
Becky "Yes! We must be pampered!"
Becky "Let's take a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon!"
Me "Fuck yeah!.....I mean....what??"

That was a fun weekend. Kerri came up from L.A. to join us in our poolside cabana at the Luxor. We sipped frosty drinks and amazed at how fucking hot the desert is in July. The show was incredible too, although our "seats" sucked. And there is something truly surreal about drinking champagne at the bottom of the Grand Canyon after having flown there from Las Vegas in a cherry red helicopter.

A month later we heard talk of a show in New York City.

Me "You wanna?"
Becky "You wanna??"
Both "Yeah!"

So off we went on a mini road trip. That show was fucking amazing. Second row center at The Ritz - Webster Hall. Awesome, awesome awesome. They opened up with Friends of Mine and it remains to this day one of the best live music moments I have ever witnessed.
But Careless Memories from last Friday's show here in Boston came pretty close I tell you! I know people probably don't think anything Duran Duran does could be summarized with (cliched) phrases like "rock" "kick ass" or "man that shit was fucking insane!" But if you were to hear those two songs live....during the same show even! Sigh. If only!

Anyway, we'll see what happens next Wednesday at Madison Square Garden!
